To say goodbye is to close with gentle fingers what has passed

and wrap it in good thoughts of remembrance.

Farewell and funeral photography

The death of a loved one is a profound event that upsets you, makes you sad and causes stress. Good guidance from a funeral director is very important, but even if there is, much will escape your notice.

Pictures can then help you show what happened that you may have been completely oblivious to. Images that can also help in grieving, in dealing with the loss, in helping you to remember.

Especially for young children, who may not yet be able to grasp what actually happened, photos are very important later in life.

You probably won't look at all those photos often. But it can help so much to have the choice.

It is (fortunately) increasingly common to have a professional farewell photographer present to capture everything surrounding the farewell of a loved one in a professional photo reportage.

Many people think that farewell photography is mainly about photographing grief and "you don't want photos of that, do you?". However, a good reportage of the farewell of a loved one shows not just the sadness but above all the love, the laughter at that beautiful memory being retrieved and the closeness of all involved.

Many details of all those events fade quickly or are not even "stored" in your memory. A good professional photo reportage will then be of great value.

At the time of the death of a loved one, you live mostly in a daze. Much will escape your notice. Beautiful photography will give you a lot of support later on.

Farewell is more than the funeral

I prefer to call my work farewell photography. Because there is more to a farewell than the funeral. Often the parting has started much earlier, for example in the last stages of a terminal illness. Then too will I be available to take memorable photos. For a last portrait, a beautiful photo of the family or with friends.... Everything is possible.

Once your loved one has passed, even before the day of the funeral, good photographs may also be desired and I am available for that as well.

Important moments include for instance the closing of the coffin, leaving the house, the family together with the deceased at home or in the family room at the funeral home.

For me, tailor-made work is the starting point of every reportage and I look forward to discussing your wishes and expectations in a personal consultation.
