The way I work

When I am contacted to make a farewell reportage, I contact the family as soon as possible to discuss your wishes and expectations. It is crucial for me to know what you want, but especially what you don't want.

I find it of the utmost importance that you know that you have all the space you need to make choices and to be able to change them.

When the end is near

It is not without reason that I call myself 'Farewell and Funeral Photographer'. It can be very good to have photographs taken during the last days of the life of a loved one. The last gathering with family, friends, or maybe even a last activity together that you want to have photos of? I know from my own experience that these are comforting images for those left behind.  Just give me a call, I'd love to hear your story and your wishes.

...and after the passing

In most cases I will come to you to meet the family in person and take the first pictures of the deceased. By then I will also have received the contact information of the funeral director, so that I can make further arrangements without burdening you.

Bart Burkels - Funeral Photography

Not disturbing, unobtrusive photography and yet capturing all the important moments. That is the basis of my work as a farewell photographer.

Photography

When taking photographs at a farewell, the guiding principle is "non-disruptive, unobtrusive'. This means that I always work in close consultation with the next of kin and/or the funeral director. I know where and when I should or should not be, and of course I always respect the wishes of the next of kin. To ensure this, I have extensive contact with the family in advance about the photography, so that I know exactly what your wishes and expectations are.

I use modern, professional and above all silent cameras. Flashlights are only used in exceptional cases when taking the last photos of the deceased. Never during a funeral ceremony.

I will have contacted the funeral director in advance about the course of the ceremony. This allows me to properly assess when there is a moment when I can move around without disturbing those present.

When all the photos are taken...

From all the photos taken, I select the best images which are then carefully post-processed one by one to get the best results. A selection made by me from all the images is then processed into a slideshow with music, if this is included in the package.

The photos are delivered digitally in high resolution, without watermark. This means that you will be sent a download link through which all photos can be downloaded. This delivery will take place no later than 10 working days after the funeral. Optionally, all photos (and any slideshow) can also be delivered on a USB stick for a small additional charge.

Next, you tell me which photos should be included in the memorial album. The album will be created by me, after which you will receive a digital version (PDF) to check before the album is produced.
